Police need help solving New Albany robbery

Report on teacher quality: Kentuckiana receives mixed results

Police need help solving New Albany robbery

Police are looking for a man after he robbed a Walgreen’s Pharmacy in New Albany at Charlestown Road and Klerner Lane Monday night.

Cameras caught the white male, who is about 6’3” stealing items off of the store shelves. Police say he told an attendant that he had a gun and demanded the prescription pain killer Oxycodone from the pharmacy.

The suspect is further described as having a medium to stocky build and had a fake red beard during the time of the robbery.

“I think that this is unusual and think that someone would know who has this beard that’s an unusual color,” said Detective Carrie East with the New Albany Police Department.

East has been with the police department for 16 years. She says, even though the suspect has an unusual description, prescription pills on the streets of New Albany is a constant problem.

The suspect was last seen running out of the Walgreen’s with an undisclosed amount of drugs.

Police are hoping the public can help put him behind bars.

“He may pop up again somewhere and hopefully someone that see’s this says, ‘Ah, we need to call the New Albany police,’" said East.

Indiana University Southeast to build additional dormitory

Indiana University Southeast plans to build a sixth dormitory on the New Albany campus.

The school's five existing dormitories are at capacity and there is a list of students waiting to move in.

The proposed new dorm would be able to house 87 students and it is supposed to be ready in time for the 2013 fall semester.

However, before IUS can break ground, it must get the city of New Albany's approval for expanded sewage and storm water capacity.

Report on teacher quality: Kentuckiana receives mixed results

Results are mixed for Kentuckiana in a new report about teacher quality.

The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) ranked Indiana in the top ten with a grade of C+. Only four states received higher grades.

The NCTQ cited a new teacher evaluation system that links student performance with teacher pay as one reason for the high marks.

Kentucky ranked 41st in teacher quality and teachers in the state received a D+ grade.
